Treñas, Mabilog groups to file COCs separately
Mayor Jerry Treñas and Vice Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog may have an alliance for next year’s election but they will be filing their certificates of candidacy (COCs) separately with their respective groups after a mass in two different venues today.
Treñas who is running for congressional post under the banner of the Nacionalista Party (NP) will file his certificate of candidacy after a 7 a.m. mass at Seminario Jaro.
He will be joined by party mates vice mayoral aspirant Councilor Jose Espinosa III and candidates of councilors, namely, Liga ng mga Barangay City Proper President Bobby Divinagracia, businessman Johnny Young, Iloilo Boarding House Commission head Edward Yee and Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (ICUPAO) head Roy Firmeza.
After the mass, Treñas and his group will proceed to the City Comelec at the second floor of the Iloilo Terminal Market for the filing of their certificates of candidacy. The group is expected to sport orange-colored shirts, the NP’s political color.
Treñas’s group has also accepted Jason Gonzales, son of Lambunao Mayor Reynor Gonzales, as their guest candidate as well as incumbent Councilor Lex Tupas of the Ugyon-Liberal.
Meanwhile, mayoral aspirant Mabilog along with his group will file their COCs after a morning mass at the Sta. Teresita Church in Quezon-De Leon Street, City Proper.
From Sta. Teresita Church, Mabilog and his party mates will walk to the City Comelec, which only a few meters away, to file their COCs for the different elective positions. They are expected to wear bright red shirts, Mabilog’s favored color even before he made his announcement to run for mayor in the city.
Mabilog’s group is a coalition of different political parties. Mabilog is with the Liberal Party (LP). His vice mayoral bet Councilor Julienne Baronda is running under the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP).
The candidates for councilors under Mabilog’s group are former Councilors Joshua Alim (PDP-Laban), Erlinda Liberiaga (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino), radioman Rodel Fullon Agado (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino), Councilor Lyndon Acap (LP), Atty. Rleonie Gerochi (LP), Atty. Plaridel Nava (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino) and activist Jory Porquia of the Bayan Muna.
Friends and supporters of the Treñas and Mabilog camps are expected to join them as they file their certificates of candidacy. Treñas and Mabilog’s group will create noise in order to dramatize their bravery in running against the group of Presidential Legal Counsel Raul Gonzalez Jr and incumbent Representative Raul Gonzalez Jr.
The Gonzalez group under the Lakas-Kampi-CMD will file their COC tomorrow morning.
The father and son tandem are moving heaven and earth to get the mayoral and congressional positions respectively in the May 2010 elections.
At the city Comelec, there are already 13 candidates who filed their COCs for councilors, congressman (1), mayor (1) and vice mayor (1) as of press time yesterday.
