PGMA to inaugurate first Biomass power plant
KALIBO, AKLAN — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is expected to visit this province on December 7 to inaugurate the first 12 megawatt Biomass Power Project in the country.
Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez said that the inauguration is the second part of the activity being hosted by ASEA Power One Corporation. The first was the ground breaking ceremony held last Saturday in Banga, Aklan.
“We are expecting Mrs. Arroyo to come on December 4 but something came up in Metro Manila so we are expecting her to visit the province on the second week of December,” Marquez said.
The said project is expected to be operational in January 2011. Earlier, the ASEA One Power has inked a memorandum of agreement with the Aklan Electric Cooperative (AKELCO) as distributor of the power supply for 25 years.
“We welcome the investment of the renewable energy in the province since it is an environment friendly power producing facility. It is expected to provide income generation to the 70,000 farmers in the province and increase economic activity in the province,” Marquez said.
The plant will utilize local agricultural residues such as rice stalks, rice husks, sugarcane waste, coco leaf wood and forest residues such as the acasia mangium as primary feedstock. (PNA)
