‘Team chopsuey versus team baboy’
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas yesterday described the issues raised against him by his political opponents as a product of “traditional and old politics.” He said, he would rather not deal on the issues since his life is open to the public.
Treñas said it is a given fact that there would be issues, even unfounded, during the political season.
“In politics, it is not a guarantee that only one family or person will occupy the same elective position through the years. The people will have to choose who they want to vote,” said Treñas.
Treñas said their group is not frightened by the flaunted resources of other groups. It is clear that our group is supporting Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog for mayor, Councilor Jose Espinosa III for vice mayoral race and six others for councilors, he said.
Those included in the line up of Treñas are ABC City Proper President Bobby Divinagracia, Iloilo Boarding House Commission head Edward Yee, businessman Johnny Young, and Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (ICUPAO) head Roni Firmeza.
The group also adopted incumbent Councilor Lex Tupas of Ugyon-Liberal Party and independent Jason Gonzales in their slate.
Treñas’s coalition with Mabilog’s group is considered by his political opponents as “chopsuey” team. They merged forces and yet they are supporting two different vice mayoralty candidates and various candidates for councilors.
Treñas fought back saying his “team chopsuey” is better than “team baboy”. He did not name who’s group he was referring to as “team baboy” in yesterday’s interview with the media.
“Chopsuey is one nutritious and complete meal. It has lots of vegetables and even much healthier when mixed with pancit. Baboy (pig) can cause high blood and stroke. In this Christmas season, everyone must go for nutritious food,” Treñas quipped.
The mayor did not see any problem on his support to Mabilog as his mayor and Espinosa as his vice mayor although Mabilog has his own vice mayoral candidate and line up for councilors.
