16 tribes confirm participation in 2010 Dinagyang
A total of 16 participating tribes have registered to join the 2010 Dinagyang competition. The two tribes that became controversial in the 2009 Dinagyang tribes contest are no longer participating.
The participating tribes for the 2010 Dinagyang competition are: Himal-us, Silak, Ilonganon, Tribu Aninipay, Paghidaet, Molave, Panagat, Pag-asa, Angola, Bantu, Atub-Atub, Panaad, Pan-ay, Bola-Bola, Salognon and Milagrosa. The tribes competition is set on January 24, 2010.
A check at the City Tourism and Development Office (CTDO) showed that Tribu Hamili and Himala did not register after the November 30 deadline set by the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) ended. These two tribes became controversial after they threatened to back out from the competition if they were not given financial assistance. Settlements were made before the final competition in order not to ruin the world class festival.
The committee ruled that only performing tribes in the past competitions should be given financial assistance. The assistance depends on their performance rating.
In the 2009 ati competition, Tribu Paghidaet was declared champion. The Tribu Bola-Bola got the 1st place; Tribu Ilonganon landed second and Tribu Silak 3rd place. The Tribu Himal-us of the province of Guimaras was last year’s fourth runner-up.

The Dinagyang Executive committee is expected to release the names of the participants in the Kasadyahan competition next week. The Kasadyahan competition, set on January 23, is one of the major events included in the Dinagyang activities.
