Dirty politics
Kabataan party-list has urged Congress to pass a law that would penalize schools that bar students from taking their exams because they had not fully paid their school bills.
Indeed, the no-permit no-exam policy is a social sin that is worthy to be called a crime.

A ground-breaking ceremony of the first 12-megawatt (MW) Renewable Energy Biomass Power Plant in barangays Agbanawan and Venturanza, municipality of Banga, Aklan was held yesterday.
This anti-global warming initiative is awesome. Hopefully, other local governments will follow suit. Yes to renewables!

Arroyo administration’s satisfaction rating performance has fallen to just a point shy of its worst showing, a new Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed.
Why am I not surprised?

The European Union is to offer “one to three billion euros” in aid to developing countries over the next three years so they can fight the effects of climate change, the Financial Times Deutschland reported yesterday.
They must. They are the major contributors of CFCs and other earth-unfriendly particles in the first place.

People have raised the possibility that the declaration of martial law in Maguindanao province could be a test case for a similar declaration during the May 2010 elections.
Anything can happen under the scepter of traditional politics.

Pope Benedict XVI has told world leaders attending the climate summit in Copenhagen that caring for God’s creation requires they adopt sober and responsible lifestyles.
I agree. Their actions must be anchored on the principle of respect to creation and promotion of development while respecting human dignity and the common good.

Martial law in Maguindanao is a must, some say.
I think it is a bitter pill that we have to take. For what we need is the fast and effective cleaning of the Ampatuan mess. Otherwise, the damage to the country will be worse. For the sooner it is resolved and the sooner they sort this humiliating atrocity out, the better the message will be to the international community. Of course, prudence on the part of the military must reign supreme.

GMA was reportedly in Roxas City yesterday for the groundbreaking ceremony of the multi-million drainage project in the seafood capital of the country.
At last, the people of Capiz will benefit from the government coffers big-time!

GMA was also reportedly in Aklan yesterday for the launching of the new RORO route from Dumaguit, New Washington, Aklan to Batangas via Odiongan, Romblon.
This, indeed, will open cheap, affordable and fast sea transportation from Eastern Aklan to Luzon, another rare good project from the administration.

Iloilo City vice “mayorable” Julienne ‘Jamjam’ Baronda challenged her detractors to come out in the open in filing charges against her. The anonymous complaint, to note, is about the alleged “unaudited” procurement of P333,000-worth learning materials for this city’s day care centers and the half-a-million-peso worth Nebulizer sets and Nebules for this city’s health centers.
Sad thing is that this complaint is likely purposed to malign her, than to give justice to our taxpayers money. It’s clearly politically motivated—a part of dirty politics. The dirtiness of which speaks for the people who masterminded it.

16 tribes are participating in the 2010 Dinagyang competition. The two tribes that became controversial in the 2009 Dinagyang—Himala and Hamili—are no longer participating.
Gone were the days when more than 30 tribes join in the tribe joust. Nonetheless, all that I am hoping for is for these participating tribes to perform at par with international standards. I’m sure, though, that archrivals Ilonganon, Silak, Bola-Bola, and Paghidaet will again rock the city wild come January.

University of San Agustin Golden Eagles won the regional championship of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) National Junior Championships 2009 held in Cebu City late last month.
Beating University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJR) and the University of the Visayas (UV)—the current CESAFI champion is a big thing that is worth celebrating. Surely, the Ilonggo hoopsters are still in the nation’s caging radar.

A yearly privilege for the city vendors will allow retailers starting this week to use portions of the Calle Real and district plazas for free. They will be allowed to sell different merchandise from household to personal things, except firecrackers.
This vote-earning project must be regulated so as not to produce eyesores especially in the heritage areas in the city like JM Basa Street. Also, the no-pyro rule must be imposed with an iron first to prevent untoward accidents like fire.

Government soldiers on Sunday night took custody of Maguindanao Governor Andal Ampatuan Sr. with the use of force.
Is Martial Law also declared in Davao?

Tiger Woods had his humiliating transgressions (having sexually linked to at least three women) played for laughs on the television show, “Saturday Night Live,” the world’s greatest golfer and his wife Elin parodied in a spoof just before midnight.

Malacańang said the gruesome massacre in Maguindanao that left 57 people killed will not affect the resumption of peace talks between the government panel and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
It may even act as catalyst for the peace process.

Joke of the day
A guy goes to the gates of heaven where he meets St. Peter. St. Peter says to him “God has looked at your book of life and you are welcome in heaven under one condition”
The man say “What’s that?”
St. Peter says “You must spell the word ‘Love’.” So he does and he is let in to heaven. As he gets in, St. Peter’s beeper goes off. He tells the man to watch the gate until he returns, and reminds him that he must ask whoever comes to spell the word. Next thing you know, his wife show up at the gate and he asks her what she is doing there?
She says that on the way home from the funeral, there was an accident and she died. The husband says alright, but you do have to spell one word first before you come in to heaven.
She asks “What’s that?”
He says “Spell Czechoslovakia”
