Ilog launches P6-M GTZ-assisted project
The Municipality of Ilog launches and the German Technical Cooperation is set to launch today (December 11) a P6-million project for the municipality’s farmers and fisherfolks.
Dubbed as “Assistance to Upland Farmers and Fisherfolks in Natural Resource Management and Development”, the project targets 5 coastal and upland barangays in the municipality.
The P6-million grant from GTZ covers some 346 hectares in Barangays II, Andulauan, Balicotoc, Canlamay, and Pinggot.
Brgy. II and Andulauan, both coastal barangays will use the grant to plant and reforests its mangrove cover of some 26 and 50 hectares respectively.
While, barangays Balicotoc, Canlamay, and Pinggot, all upland farming villages will use the grant for the rehabilitation of its agro-forest of around 150, 30 and 90 hectares respectively.
“This project will not only provide livelihood to our farmers and fishermen but will help mitigate the impact of climate change through carbon dioxide reduction since more mangroves and more trees will be planted,” Municipal Planning and Development Office Head Elmer Magbato told PIA.
Through the grant, the municipality aims to grow more trees and reforest its agro-forestry and mangrove areas.
Officials and representatives from GTZ, DENR-6, PEMO, PENRO, CENRO-Kabankalan and the local officials of Ilog and its Technical Working Group are expected to grace the launching at Gabaldon Building of the Ilog Elementary School.
Aside from the formal launch, the program also includes the unveiling of the project sites and messages from Ilog Municipal Mayor Joyce Alvarez, and various environment agency heads. (PIA/EAD)
