Panay town wins as top 3 best performing LGUs in WV
PANAY, Capiz – This town under the leadership of Mayor Dante Bermejo will be awarded by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Office 6 as top three in best performing Local Government Units (LGUs) or excellence in local governance.
Mayor Bermejo told The News Today (TNT) that his office received a letter from DILG informing that Panay town is one the top three among municipalities in Western Visayas which excelled in local governance to be awarded on December 15, 2009 at Iloilo Grand Hotel.
It was learned that Panay town won as excellence in local governance earlier, in which it will automatically represent Capiz in the regional level contest.
He added that this town, which is also three times winner of Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran (GPK), will also be declared as hall of famer in provincial level saying that requirements are still on the process.
Earlier, Panay town won six awards during the Sinadya sa Halaran Gab-i sa Pagpasalamat and Western Visayas Tourism Excellence Awards held at the Capiz Gym.
The six awards were: excellence in local governance (first to 3rd class towns); Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran (GPK) the cleanest and greenest; special award in excellence in development administration; environmental management; the cleanest and greenest highway; and social services.
The said awards were received by Bermejo, Vice Mayor Gualberto Bernas III, Sangguniang Bayan (SB) members and department heads.
Other winners were: Ivisan also won excellence in local governance award (4th to 6th municipalities); Sigma on economic development and Pontevedra in excellence in local legislation.
The other GPK awardees: Ivisan, 2nd place; Dumarao, 3rd; Cuartero, 4th; Dao, 5th and Jamindan, 6th. On Greenest and Cleanest highway: Ivisan, 2nd; and Jamindan, 3rd.
In excellence in local governance (first to 3rd class) Pontevedra, 2nd; and Maayon, 3rd. (4th to 6th class: Sigma, 2nd and Pres. Roxas, 3rd.
