Panay tops 2009 cleanest, greenest tilt
ROXAS CITY – The municipality of Panay in Capiz once again made it to the top in the 2009 Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran provincial annual search.
Panay town was also last year’s first placer in the same annual competition and also won first place in 2007 GPK provincial search.
Panay ranked second in 2007 during the GPK Regional Evaluation for the 1st to 3rd class category.
Capiz Interior and Local Government Provincial Director Helen Mestidio revealed that Panay had unanimously ranked first in the ranking of 8 members of the Provincial Search Committee, chaired by Capiz Governor Victor Tanco and co-chaired by DILG.
According to Mestidio, Panay got an overall rating of 99.28 points based on the criteria set forth in the GPK annual competition, overtaking 15 other towns in the province.
On the other hand, the municipality of Ivisan was adjudged second place winner for two consecutive years now.
Meanwhile, Dumarao town ranked 3rd, Cuartero placed 4th, Dao ranked 5th , and Jamindan made it to the sixth place.
Capiz Governor Victor Tanco personally awarded a trophy and cash prizes to winners during the recent Local Government Unit Night (LGU night) dubbed as Gab-i sang Pagpasalamat, one of the activities of the recently concluded Sinadya sa Halaran festival here.
Although, the GPK search has already been suspended at the regional and national levels, the provincial government of Capiz continues to conduct the said competition.
For several years now, Capiz has been setting aside funds to sustain the program, Tanco said, adding that for prizes alone, the province has appropriated some P625,000 of which P150,000, P125,000, P100,000, P75,000, and P50,000 are for the 1st to 6th placer, respectively.
The 10 other municipalities each receive P10,000 as consolation price. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
