Alay Lakad 2009 draws big crowd despite the rain
BACOLOD CITY — Intervals of rain, sun and drizzle did not stop students, their teachers, police officers, non-government organizations, civic clubs and government officials from marching the street for Alay Lakad 2009.
Alay Lakad 2009 anchors on the theme: Lakad Kabataan, Ituloy ang Kaunlaran with Jude Doctora of the Rotary Club Metro as Chair of Executive Committee.
Doctora in his message told students and the rest of the participants that he sees Efren Peñaflorida in each and every participant who joined Alay Lakad 2009. Peñaflorida is named as CNN Hero of the Year.
The walk for a cause is a fund raising activity for the out of school youths. Money that will be raised will be used for their educational, technical and skills training in various livelihood opportunities for nation building, Doctora added.
Meanwhile, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia revealed that for the longest time that the Alay Lakad is being conducted yearly, more and more scholars benefit from it.
“If we unite, we can do something all together for a good cause,” Leonardia told the participants.
The mayor also conveyed his personal appreciation to those who joined the walk and to those who give their donations.
Scholars from Alternative Learning Center, Handumanan Resource Center and Bacolod City College also gave their testimonies on how Alay Lakad scholarship is helping them. (PIA/EAD)
