Suspected ‘drug trader’ survives ambush
ROXAS CITY – A person alleged as a big time drug trader survived an ambush yesterday along Burgos Street here.
Rolando “Aka” Thomas Aguirre, 50 of Amaga, Sigma, Capiz and temporarily residing at Bangbang Street, this city, was ambushed by unidentified men riding two single motorcycles.
Aguirre sustained a gunshot wound on his left leg and is now recuperating at the Capiz Emmanuel Hospital.
SP01 Charlymen Tupaz, Roxas City Police investigator, said that the incident took place at around 9:30 AM yesterday at Burgos Street. She said that two individuals open fired on Aguirre who was onboard his multicab.
Tupaz said that Aguirre was coming from Punta Tabuc when he noticed that two persons kept on tailing him and upon reaching Burgos Street, he was shot.
According to the police, the victim was able to return fire with his .45 caliber and 9 mm pistol, despite being wounded, prompting the suspects to escape.
Recovered from the scene of incident were one .45 caliber pistol, one 9 mm with magazine and 9 live ammos believed to be owned by Aguirre, gun license with PTR registered in the name of the victim, one shoulder bag, and 14 empty shells of .45 caliber.
Tupaz said that Aguirre faces several criminal cases for illegal drugs. She added that the incident may be drug-related.
