Trenas denies hand on Moncal’s impending relief
CITY Mayor Jerry Trenas yesterday denied he has something to do with the impending relief of Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) director Sr. Supt. Melvin Moncal.
According to reports, Moncal would be replaced by Sr. Supt.Ricardo de la Paz as city director. De la Paz is now assigned at the Police Regional Police Office (PRO) 6 after he ended his stint as the Iloilo Police Provincial Police Office (IPPO). Moncal’s relief was allegedly triggered by his political partisan.
Moncal along with the chiefs of police allegedly attended a meeting called by Presidential Legal Counsel Raul Gonzalez Sr. and Congressman Raul Gonzalez Jr, Trenas political nemesis.
Trenas said he has not exercised his function in selecting a city police director. He said he has not lifted his fingers on the appointment of city directors at the ICPO.
Under the law, Trenas has an authority to choose from among the list of five candidates provided by a selection board in Camp Crame to assume as city director.
Moncal was allegedly an appointee of the Gonzalez’s. He assumed the post at the time when Trenas and the Gonzalez’s are then still allies.
Trenas added that the people will know if he has already made his moved over the assignment of the city director. He stressed he has no problems with the city director as long as he is “professional” and can do their best when it comes to the peace and order of the city.
The mayor added that he will check the veracity of the report regarding Moncal’s impending relief. Though, he said he has not lobbied for the city director’s ouster.
