Molo chief of police admits constant visitor of Gonzalez
THE chief of the Molo police station was brave enough to say he frequents the residence of Presidential Legal Counsel Raul Gonzalez Sr. even before the election period.
Senior Inspector Danilo de los Santos said he has been a constant visitor in Gonzalez residence in Jaro asking for legal opinion especially when the latter was then the justice secretary.
De los Santos is one of the chiefs of police who were invited by Gonzalez during a gathering in their house last year. ICPO director Sr. Supt. Melvin Moncal was also seen among the visitors.
The act was construed by Mayor Jerry Trenas as political partisanship on the part of the police. This prompted the mayor in reminding the chiefs of police and city director of his authority over them.
The elder Gonzalez is running for mayor. His son incumbent Congressman Raul Gonzalez Jr. is seeking reelection for his post.
In his defense, De los Santos said Trenas knew all along he has been seeing Gonzalez for quite a long time. De los Santos said even before Trenas became a mayor he has already established a good relationship with Gonzalez.
In a radio interview, De los Santos said his presence in the Dec. 23 gathering should not be considered as politicking. De los Santos said he is not siding with anyone as he is only doing his job in his area of assignment. He is working for the peace and order in Molo.
De los Santos also denied the reports they received cash gifts from Gonzalez. He said what was only given to them was a calendar. The information that they were given cash was only a “speculation.”
When asked if he has also visited Trenas residence, De los Santos said there was no instance that he went to the mayor’s house. He said he only met the chief executive during the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) meeting at the mayor’s office.
