Robbery against fish vendors foiled
SEVERAL fish vendors went physically unscathed after they were fired upon by suspected hold-up men Sunday evening at Brgy. Talanghauan, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.
According to reports, at around 7:00 p.m., an Elf truck driven by Roel Lopez of Brgy. Baluyan, Cabatuan town was traversing the area when two armed men flagged them down.
The suspects were allegedly armed with an armalite and a 12-gauge shotgun.
Instead of stopping, the driven maneuvered for a U-turn. It was then that the suspects fired at them.
Despite the fact that one of the vehicle’s tires was hit, the truck managed to speed off for several meters.
When it stopped, the driver and its passengers all alighted and scampered to different directions.
Among the passengers were truck owners and his wife Gemma of Brgy. Baluyan, Cabatuan; and Veronica Sapansa, Ruben Lamparero, Alfredo Esgara, Jomar Esgara, Rommel Tuares, and Reynaldo Villagracia, all of Brgy. Tiring, Cabatuan town.
Meanwhile, the suspects did not run after the victims.
According to Sta. Barbara Police Station commander Senior Insp. Elmer Armada, they surmised that the two armed men has four other companions.
The suspects allegedly fled to Brgy. Cadoldolan. From there, they proceeded to Brgy. Jelicuon, Cabatuan.
While the case is still under investigation, Armada refused to reveal possible suspects behind the incident.
