Capiceño fishermen receive livelihood gifts
Roxas City – Various materials in making fishnets were recently distributed by the Capiz provincial government to the city’s fishermen during a simple turn over ceremony at the Provincial Capitol here.
The assistance was also given to Pilar town fishermen late last year.
Capiz Gov. Victor A. Tanco, Sr. said during the turn over of the livelihood assistance that the initiative manifests the provincial government’s attention to the needs of the fishery sector.
“This intends to empower the province’s fisherfolks as hundreds of recipients are yet to receive the materials,” said a Capiz Provincial Press Bureau’s (CPPB) broadcast release.
The materials included packs of floaters, bundles of nets and kilograms of nylon cords, among others.
Fishing is among the primary sources of income of the Capiceños.
The province boasts of its rich fishing grounds that made it popular as the Seafood Capital of the country.
It has also an area of 20,000 hectares suitable for prawn culture and a steady supply of raw materials for prawn seed production. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
