HealthPRO to be implemented in Negros Occidental
HealthPRO is a five-year USAID Philippines project to support health related Behavior Change Communication (BCC) activities in the country.
It is the lead USAID vehicle for providing health promotion and communication technical assistance to the Department of Health and local government units
HealthPRO aims to assist local government units expand and strengthen the quality and sustainability of their behavior change communication efforts.
Its goal is to assist selected local government units through the Department Of Health and related agencies in enabling and sustaining healthy practices through access to quality health information.
In Negros Occidental, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) selected ten local government units as priority area for this project namely; the cities of Kabankalan, Talisay and Cadiz and the towns of Cauayan, Don Salvador Benedicto, Calatrava, Valladolid, Toboso, Isabela and Hinigaran.
In selecting the priority area, the PHO based on the following indicators; infant mortality rate (IMR); maternal mortality rate (MMR); delivery by skilled birth attendants; facility based deliveries; prenatal; cardio pulmonary rate (CPR); and fully immunized child.(FIC).
Project objectives are to promote healthy behavior and practices in maternal and child health, family planning/reproductive health, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and other emerging diseases like avian influenza and to expand the capacities of appropriate national and local institutions, organizations and individuals in developing and implementing sustainable health promotion and communication programs.
