Peace covenant
In Bacolod City candidates for congressman and mayor have signed a peace covenant in the presence of their bishop recently. The church and the media have also conducted a candidates’ forum for mayoralty candidates of Bacolod last week wherein all the mayoralty bets attended. Apparently, despite the intense political rivalry in Bacolod candidates still remain professional and continue to be civil. We just don’t know if congressional and mayoralty candidates here in Iloilo City can do the same. Or, could we ever see a peace covenant among our congressional and mayoralty candidates here in the city?
Politics affects Jaro fiesta
Politics destroyed the image of the annual Jaro fiesta particularly the traditional Jaro Agro-Industrial Fair. The divided barangay captains wanted to show who remains to be the force to reckon with—those under Mayor JPT or those under RMG? Definitely this year’s Jaro fiesta highlight on February 2 will never be the same again as the group of RMG are not joining JPT’s group. This was already evident during the Jaro fiesta opening parade last Friday where two factions of barangay captains held separate parades.
Isa ka semana nga perwisyo
Disaster is the word which could best describe the traffic situation in downtown Iloilo City nowadays. Main culprit is the closure beginning yesterday of some streets to give way for the construction of stages for the Dinagyang competition this coming Saturday and Sunday. In other words for one week the people would be suffering a traffic disaster in downtown Iloilo City. In previous years, full construction of performance stages begin by Thursday of the Dinagyang week that is why indi gid masyado ka perwisyo sa mga pumuluyo. Now as early as last Sunday Quezon Street (near Robinsons), and Iznart Street (fronting Grand Hotel) were already totally closed. Whoever thought of closing these roads very early in the week should have considered its effect on the commuters.
