Comelec voters’ education drive on use of PCOS ongoing
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) initiated voters’ information and education campaign on the use of Precinct Count Optical Scanner (PCOS) is ongoing in the different districts in Iloilo City.
Comelec election assistant Jonathan Sayno said they will visit the district of La Paz today (Jan.20) for the voters’ information and education campaign. Interested groups are encouraged to visit the La Paz district gymnasium in the morning.
Sayno added that they will transfer to the gymnasium of Barangay North Fundidor, Molo in the afternoon to brief and give insights to the voters on the Automated Election System. The information and education campaign will also provide the voters an idea on how PCOS works.
The following day, the Comelec will be in Arevalo gymnasium in the morning and at the Don Esteban covered gym in Lapuz in the afternoon. They have already made rounds in the districts of Mandurriao, Jaro and City Proper, said Sayno.
He explained that they do not only give insights on the use of PCOS machine but impart the salient points in voting procedures governed by the Automated Election System.
The “voter voting” is one important aspect in the first automated election that the voters should give emphasis. The voters should only vote for the exact number of candidates in a given position, said Sayno.
An excess vote in a given position will invalidate the vote for such position. If the position for councilor only needs 12 candidates, voters have to shade 12 names out of the number of candidates listed in the voters’ sheet. The over voting will not invalidate the entire voters sheet, said Sayno.
