Italian gov’t turns over 80 housing units to families displaced by typhoon ‘Frank’
The Italian government through Sergio Qattrocchi, project manager of the Italian Cooperation, turned over Friday some P7.2 million worth of housing units to families displaced by typhoon ‘Frank’ in 2008.
The housing project, composed of 80 units, is situated at the city-owned relocation site in Barangay San Isidro, Jaro.
Former Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (ICUPAO) head Roni Firmeza said he is now preparing a request to be submitted to the Italian government for an additional 15 units.
Firmeza was the head of the ICUPAO when the construction of the housing project kicked off.
Early last week, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Habitat for Humanity also turned over 100 housing units to victims of the said typhoon.
The DSWD and the Habitat are expected to build some 500 houses in San Isidro using the P35-million fund from the Housing Urban and Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC). (PNA)
