SP more likely to declare Nabitasan under state of calamity
Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog is confident that the Sangguniang Panlungsod will pass a resolution declaring Barangay Nabitasan in La Paz under the state of calamity regardless of the councilors’ political affiliation in today’s regular session.
Mabilog expects that the request of Mayor Jerry Treñas will receive favorable response from the city councilors whether they are with the administration or the opposition.
Mabilog agreed with Treñas on the importance of the passage of the resolution declaring the barangay under the state of calamity to the hundreds of fire victims left homeless because of last weekend’s fire that affected 142 houses.
Recent records from the City Social Welfare and Development showed there are 134 houses that were totally razed by fire and eight were partially burned. It left 185 families homeless and affected 862 persons. The fire claimed the life of Trinidad Formacion and injured 13 people.
Although there are relief packages coming from different organizations and city government there is still a need to declare the barangay under the state of calamity for the affected residents to take their share from the calamity fund.
The passage of the resolution entitled them of an assistance coming from the calamity fund. Though, the government discouraged the giving of financial aid out of the calamity fund.
