Gonzalez Sr. clears self on bodyguard’s misconduct
Presidential Legal Counsel Raul Gonzalez Sr. said “it is ridiculous” to drag his name in the controversy involving his security detail PO1 Ronnie Refugio and the four children of Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Gonzalez Sr., who is running for city mayor, defended himself from the issue saying he is not his bodyguard’s keeper. He could not exactly say what happened between his security detail and that of the mayor’s children.
In a radio interview, Gonzalez asked his political detractors to refrain from concocting false stories out of what really transpired Monday night at the Nabitasan Elementary School.
Gonzalez said it is best that a proper investigation be made regarding the matter. He said based on reports Refugio was unarmed during the incident and he (Refugio) merely told Treñas’s children to stop politicking and asked them whether they informed the barangay captain about their relief operation.
When asked where Refugio is and whether the cop has initiated a contact with him after last Monday’s incident, Gonzalez simply replied he has no idea. He confirmed Refugio is assigned to him since 2002.
Gonzalez said the last time he met Refugio was after the fire incident in Nabitasan. The fire razed the cop’s house, his mother’s house as well as his brother’s house. “Let us be considerate to him,” Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez further said that he has given Refugio a break from his duty because of the fire incident. He was so desperate and disappointed on the response of the fire department when the fire broke out, Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez reiterated in the same interview the need for all those interested groups and personalities to inform the Punong Barangay of whatever relief operation they may have at the evacuation center.
The mayoralty candidate boasted that he has donated 10 sacks of rice, 1,000 packs of noodles, a truck of water and hundreds of bottled water to the fire victims and yet he turned it over the Barangay Captain Noriel Arsolo for distribution.
Arsolo is one of the many barangay captains supporting the candidacy of Gonzalez Sr.
