Campaign fatigue: No time for sex?
(The following is a series of thoughts taken from the writer’s health book “Fit to Run Fit to Win” dedicated to all Election 2010 candidates. Of course, all our readers can also relate):
Plenty of time I tell you! Plenty of stamina too. Sex, a biological need, ranks high for male candidates/non candidates alike. Thus, time need not be a problem. Only trouble is: many candidates are members of the Great “PILO-ship” club. I hate to say this—but their things fold!
As prelude to Joyful Life & Sex’s Coitus 911, please read more for ‘harder’ sexual views:
“Not tonight… Sweetie!”
Patient: “Doc, why is it that every time I start touching my husband’s testicles, he irritably slaps my hands?” Sounds silly for a female patient to ask? Sillier when this was asked while three provinces eagerly listened? Sure... it happened! In one episode of our Sunday morning radio health program, a 43 year-old housewife called up and casually asked me, “on-the-air” (albeit in a most matured manner), this stunning question. Honestly, I was stunned too. It took me a few seconds to regain my poise.
Hi there… ED!
The hubby slapped her hands because of this silent curse called ED or Erectile Dysfunction (a more compassionate word for impotence). ED is the persistent inability to achieve and/ or maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual activity. If High Blood Pressure is the ‘silent killer’ disease, ED is silent killer of the male esteem. Ours is a machismo society; hence male sexual conquest measures the highest for manliness. In effect: many ED patients suffer in silence—feeling embarrassed, fearful, and depressed. Too bad, ED can also endanger marital relationship: the wife feels she’s no longer attractive or desirable; and, worse, she fears her husband is having an affair. The ED man, in turn, fears that it is his big failure not to sexually satisfy his wife. The latter then chooses not to discuss the problem for fear of embarrassing her husband. This messy cycle continues and may lead to a miserable relationship perchance… to marital break-up.
ED at 40?
So, is ED pretty common? The Massachusetts Male Aging Study shows that in men aged 40 to 70 years, about half of them (52%) suffer from ED. Once you have reached 40, you have 39% chance of having it; and 67% chance at aged 70. Dr. Neil Baum of New Orleans Male Infertility Clinic said: “If men are honest, every one of them will tell they’ve sustained an impotence episode at one time of their lives.”
So… how do you fare?
It was said in a symposium that: at
age 20: a man can do it thrice in one setting; then
at 30: thrice a day;
at 40: thrice weekly;
at 50: thrice a month;
at 60: tries weakly;
at 70: tries anything; and
at 80: tries to remember!
So come on guys… let’s face the hard (sadly, the soft) reality. And should there be ‘can’t wait to ask questions”, please feel free to connect: dryapjr@yahoo.com.
