Groundbreaking for city hall project set
City Legal Officer Atty. Edgar Gil said the groundbreaking for the new Iloilo City Hall project is set on Feb. 15 following the awarding of the contract to FF Cruz- Freyssinet Philippines.
Gil, who is the chair of Bids and Awards Committee, said Mayor Jerry Treñas will issue a Notice to Proceed to the contractor after the groundbreaking rites to formally start the construction of the seven-storey city hall building.
FF Cruz-Freyssinet Philippines won the contract since it offered the lowest bid of P368 million. The two other construction firms that joined the bidding were Asset Builders Corp. for P395.16 million while Hilmarc’s Construction Corp. tendered P382.81 million.
The city government would save P80 million from the winning bid price as the project has a proposed budget of P455 million.
The city government loaned P350 million from the Land Bank of the Philippines for the project. Another P100 million loan was added because of the volatile prices in the cost of construction materials.
Gil said the savings will be used for other components of the building such as the air-conditioning system and parking space. The installation of air-conditioning system is not included in the contract. The contractor proposed that a 2-storey parking bay be constructed beside the new city hall.
Initially, the contractor promised to finish the construction at least in one year period.
Gil added that WV Coscoluella and Associates is happy after FF Cruz-Freyssinet won the contract. He said WV Coscolluela and FF Cruz worked on several projects in Metro Manila before.
WV Coscolluela won in the bid for the architectural design of the new city hall building while the Pacific-Orient Consultants & Management Co. Inc prepared the estimates for the city hall building.
The FF Cruz is a reliable and competent partner of WV Coscolluela, said Gil.
