NFA starts selling sugar
The National Food Authority is now selling refined sugar at P48 per kg to some market-based outlets such as the Institutionalized Bigasan sa Palengke (IBSP) being operated by federation of NFA accredited rice retailers in Metro Manila to help stabilize the commodity’s price.
To speed up distribution, NFA administrator Jessup P. Navarro said the agency is repacking into one kilogram bag each, some 800 bags of 50 kilogram sugar (Lkg) the Sugar Regulatory Administration initially released to the NFA.
The 800 Lkg from SRA are being allocated to several public market under NFA’s operational jurisdiction depending on the number of existing IBSP in the area.
The National Capital region (NCR) is subdivided into the Central District Office (CDO), Northern District Office (NDO), Southern District Office (SDO) and Eastern District Office (EDO).
CDO which has existing 377 IBSP was allocated 400 Lkg. It consists of Manila , Quezon City , Tondo, San Juan and Novaliches.
Both the North District and South District Offices (NDO and SDO) received 150 Lkg each. NDO which has 192 existing IBSP covers Caloocan , Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela.
SDO has 67 IBSPs and has operational jurisdiction over Bicutan, Mandaluyong Pateros, Las Piñas Taguig, Makati , Pasay , Muntinlupa and Parañaque.
The EDO covers Antipolo, Pasig ,Taytay and Marikina . Antipolo received 50 Lkg allocation and another 50 Lkg allocation was given to NFA’s Cavite provincial office.
While waiting for the market price of sugar price to stabilize, Navarro informed sale of the low-priced sugar will be limited to only one kilogram per consumer.
