Alice Tan-Gonzales’ Taguangkan Sang Duta
Alice Tan-Gonzales, one of my most admired Ilonggo writers, has launched her book entitled “Taguangkan sang Duta kag Iban Pa nga Sugilanon” in a simple program and cocktails at the UPV Art Gallery last December.
The esteemed guests were led by UPV Chancellor Minda Formacion. Dr Formacion, UPV officials, literary aficionados and media guests, were treated to a storytelling of three stories from the said book. Those who volunteered to read the excerpts and who did a really great job were Prof. Alfredo Diaz, Dr. Zenaida French and the pair of Eliodora Dimzon and Prof. Ruben Gamala for “Esperanza” “Dabadaba sa Sidlangan” and “Sa Taguangkan sang Duta” respectively.
Purr bought a copy of the book, which is affordable at P80 and had been enjoying a good read of Gonzales’ award-winning stories since then.
Reading Hiligaynon literature may be rare nowadays, but I urge you to try it. Revisit your roots. There’s nothing that can match reading a book that’s written in one’s mother tongue.
Copies of the book are available at the UPV Office of Culture and the Arts, Iloilo City campus, with telephone number (033) 337-9159.
