Mabilog denies being a political butterfly
Vice Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog denied allegations that he is a “political butterfly” flying from one party to another. He stressed that he is still supporting the Liberal Party (LP).
He said his loyalty is still with Senator Franklin Drilon and LP standard bearer Senator Noynoy Aquino.
Mabilog’s reaction was in response to reports that he is also supporting former President Joseph Estrada of the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP). The former president also raised Mabilog’s hands when the former visited Iloilo City last week.
He suspects the issue tagging him a political butterfly was designed by his opponent who was refused by Erap and the Lakas-Kampi-CMD to be their official candidate in the city. Mabilog did not name who is behind the attempt to discredit him.
Mabilog said he could not prevent the former president from throwing his support to him. He believes he is one person whom is worthy of the trust and support of the former president.
Erap was the country’s 13th president but was deposed. He was convicted of plunder case and was given pardon. He is trying his luck again in the presidential race.
Mabilog, Presidential Legal Counsel Raul Gonzalez Sr. and former LWUA administrator Larry Jamora are running for the mayoralty position here.
Mabilog said he was even surprised when the deposed President announced he is the PMP’s guest candidate. He added, he attended the gathering of the PMP to show his support to his vice mayoralty candidate Councilor Julienne Baronda.
There are also members of his political ticket who are affiliated with PMP, Erap’s political party. The issue on his loyalty to the Liberal Party was raised by his political detractors to discredit him from the Liberal Party, said Mabilog.
Mabilog added that his critics will surely send pictures of him being endorsed by Erap. He said his detractors are so “desperate” that they made an issue out of Erap’s endorsement.
The vice mayor said he does not mind the attack made by his detractors as his track record speaks of himself. Mabilog said he is after for good governance.
