CLO postpones demolition of 12 illegal structures
BACOLOD CITY — Legal Officer 2 Atty. Cesar Beloria, head of the Composite Enforcement Unit–City Legal Office, said the demolition of 12 illegal structures built along San Juan Street, Purok Malipayon, Barangay 12 was postponed after the residents appealed not to implement the demolition so that they could prepare for an orderly and peaceful relocation.
Beloria along with the members of the Composite Enforcement Unit went to the demolition site to officially serve the Notice of Demolition but the residents insisted that they will be given enough and reasonable time.
Beloria said that last December 15, 2009, twelve (12) occupants were advised to voluntarily demolish their structures since the property they were occupying was declared “nuisance per se” by the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Atty. Sonya Verdeflor, legal counsel of the squatters, recently wrote City Legal Officer Atty. Joselito Bayatan and asked for the deferment of said demolition so that her clients could prepare for their transfer.
“The undersigned in behalf of the said residents who received your said notice and who sought my legal assistance, would like to respectfully request for a meeting/conference with you in order to discuss the said residents’ request not to summarily demolish their structures along San Juan Street, Purok Malipayon, Barangay 12, Bacolod City now, but to give them more time or until the end of May 2010 to enable them to prepare for an orderly and peaceful relocation,” Verdeflor asked.
She said that Barangay 12 residents have family members and children who are in their neighboring schools and some have small business endeavors in the locality, thus are requesting the city’s consideration and compassion before they eventually vacate the area.
On the other hand, Beloria agreed to have a dialogue before the demolition order be implemented.
