Iloilo City celebrates Chinese New Year
Iloilo City’s Chinatown or the area along Iznart Street where most of Filipino-Chinese commercial establishments are located will again turn festive as the city celebrates on its eighth year the Chinese New Year.
Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce Iloilo Inc. (FCCCI) president Dr. Roland Uy said they set the celebration today to allow more people to watch the activities prepared by the Iloilo Chinese Cultural Association.
Officially, the Chinese New Year will start on Sunday, February 14.
Iloilo City government would implement traffic rerouting starting 1 p.m. in preparation for the Chinese New Year Parade which will start along Bonifacio Drive and will pass Iznart St., JM Basa St., Aldeguer St. and will end at Plazoletagay.
A cultural program follows after the grand parade. The Iloilo Chinese-Filipino Cultural Association has prepared a cultural program depicting Chinese culture through songs and dances. Some 78 students from different Chinese schools will once again delight the spectators.
Aside from the exhibits, grand parade and cultural presentation, there will also a display of world class pyrotechnics in the evening at the Chinatown. Food festival showcasing some Chinese cuisines is another crow-drawer in today’s Chinese New Year festival.
Chinese New Year souvenirs and feng shui items will also be sold in today’s night market.
