Treñas issues EO making CNY a yearly event
The Filipino-Chinese community here in Iloilo City can now be assured of a Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration whoever will be the next mayor of the city.
This, after outgoing Mayor Jerry Treñas signed an executive order institutionalizing the holding of the Chinese New Year celebration in the city every year.
Treñas presented his executive order during his speech in last Friday’s celebration of the Chinese New Year.
Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce Iloilo Inc. (FCCCI) president Dr. Roland Uy as well as the presidents of other Filipino-Chinese organizations welcomed Treñas’s executive order.

Chinese cuisine as well as souvenirs were also showcased during the food festival held along Iznart Street.
Among the prominent guests in the Chinese New Year celebration were anti-crime crusader Teresita Ang-See and former Tourism undersecretary Narzalina Lim.
The group of Liberal Party standard-bearers Sen. Noynoy Aquino and Sen. Mar Roxas also dropped by the celebration.
Notably present in the occasion were Iloilo City Rep. Raul Gonzalez Jr. and her mother Dr. Pacita Gonzalez.
