Tigbauanons rule Paraw Slalom competition
Tigbauanons have proven their seamanship in maneuvering the engine-less paraws (sail boats) as they swift the major prizes in the Paraw Slalom contest in the 38th Iloilo Paraw Regatta.
The Paraw Slalom contest is an added attraction to the traditional Iloilo Paraw Regatta. The competition was held in front of Tatoy’s Manokan in Arevalo last Saturday.
The primary objective of the Paraw Slalom is to enhance the seamanship of the crew in handling and maneuvering the paraw under all wind and wave conditions in a preset race course. This year’s theme is “Honoring a Proud Filipino Seafaring Tradition.
In the Paraw Slalom contest, there are two categories, Category A and Category B.
The first prize winner in the Category A is entry Jolina owned by Orlando Tajanlangit of Tigbauan while entry Cherelyn owned by Rico Tantiado of Parara, Tigbauan won in the Category B.
Tajanlangit received a P10,000 cash prize and a trophy. While, Tantiado received P12,000 cash prize and trophy.
The other winners in the Category A are (2nd) Piranha 3 owned by Benito Gordoncillo of the town of Leganes, (3rd) Joseph 2 owned by Rogelio Garreza of Guimbal (4th) Nina & Aissiah owned by Hector Espinosa and (5th) Mitch Angel owned by Anthony Tangob of Tigbauan.
The 2nd prize winner received P8,000 cash prize and trophy while the 3rd prize winner also received P7,000 cash prize and trophy. The 4th and 5th placers received P6,000 and P4,000 cash prizes, respectively.
In the Category B, the 2nd prize winner is paraw entry Kristine owned by Oscar Espinosa of Sto. Niño Sur, Arevalo and 3rd prize winner is paraw entry Toto RJ owned by Romel Gariza of the town of Guimbal.
The paraw entry 2 Angels of Jayde Pauchano of Leganes and Marjhonec of Hector Espinosa emerged as 4th and 5th placers, respectively.
The end prize winner in the category B received P10,000 cash prize and trophy while the 3rd prize winner received P8,000 cash prize and trophy. The 4th and 5th placers received P6,000 and P4,000 cash prizes, respectively.
The Paraw Slalom contest was spearheaded by the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation Inc (IPRFI) chair Manny Villa Jr. and supported by Department of Tourism 6 regional director Edwin Trompeta.
