Demolition of 22 illegal structures moved to May 2010
BACOLOD CITY — Legal Officer 2 Atty. Cesar Beloria yesterday said that the Committee on Market Chaired by Sangguniang Panlungsod Member Alex Paglumotan agreed to set aside the demolition of 22 illegal structures situated in Purok Malipayon, Barangay 12 for humanitarian reason.
Beloria gave this statement after he attended yesterday the Committee Hearing called by Paglumotan at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Session Hall around 9:30 in the morning.
He said that Paglumotan’s intervention over this issue is very important since the residents had already received a notice of voluntary demolition last December 15, 2009.
Beloria stressed that the City Legal Office–Enforcement Unit will first recommend on the extension appealed by the relocatees on or before May 31, 2010.
He said that before the demolition takes place, the residents were advised to proceed to the Bacolod Housing Authority (BHA) to process their relocation site.
On the other hand, Paglumotan appealed to the residents not to be used as a tool for politicking considering that only few months are left before the holding of May 10, 2010 election.
He stressed that the city is willing to extend whatsover assistance as long as the relocatees is genuine and sincere to help the program of the city in terms of relocation.
Earlier, Analyn Santillan who was also included in the demolition order said that it is inappropriate or untimely for the city to imposing a demolition order considering that most of their children are studying in public schools.
Santillan said that this order will harm them because it will give additional burden to them as residents of said barangay. She added that this issue is very legitimate and has nothing to do with politicking as what the city government believes.
Beloria said that the Bacolod Housing Authority will assist the affected residents.
