Heated arguments ensue among UKC, LP bets
ROXAS CITY – Despite the rule of the Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion (CPC) that all candidates will only present themselves and their platforms of government as the title of the forum was “know your local candidates”, there were heated arguments or rebuttal among bets of Liberal Party (LP) and Ugyon Kita Capiz (UKC).
LP mayoral bet Alan Celino said that once he elected as city mayor, he will declare war against illegal fishing and not allow its proliferation in Brgy. Olutayan as he answered the question on what he will do to retain the title of Roxas City as seafood capital of the Philippines. He added that he is running for a change.
Celino also hit City Mayor Vicente Bermejo for allowing one town to use the city as dump site. Celino is referring to Panay town which dumped its wastes to Roxas City dumpsite.
On his part, Bermejo refuted by saying that the problems of the city is not so much of illegal fishing but illegal drugs that’s why he lighted the city’s streets and put police substations in different parts of the city. “You know who is actually pushing the illegal drugs here,” Bermejo added.
According to Bermejo, the fact is that Roxas City is not actually the source of seafood but Panay, Ivisan, Sapian and Pontevedra towns. “But I will support Roxas City to retain as seafood capital of the Philippines,” he said adding that he already implemented the change since he assumed as the city mayor.
On how to attract investors, Celino said that he will ask the city council to pass incentive ordinance, tax relief for the investors and not to collect more taxes and three months advance tax collection at Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center as Celino accused Bermejo of doing so.
On the other hand, Bermejo said that his scheme to attract investors are more projects, lightings and giving some 30 guns for the police to maintain peace and order in the city. He added that if the city is lighted at night and very peaceful, more investors will come in.
Meanwhile, the camps of the UKC accused LP to have their cheering squads who interrupted the forum.
Former Gov. Jose “Ting” Borda said in a text message that bringing “chuwawas” was not allowed by the CPC administration but the LP did not honor the agreement.
Meanwhile, the LP was not reached for their comment on the matter.
