Bacoleños assured of enough water supply
BACOLOD CITY — Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) General Manager Juliana Carbon assured all its consumers of sufficient water supply despite the threats brought by the El Niño phenomenon all over the country.
Carbon said that El Niño has no direct effect on the water sources of Baciwa such as the spring and production deep wells.
“We assure the people of Bacolod that we have enough water sources on this dry spell season because we are not getting our supply from the surface water but ground waters,” Carbon said.
She also assured that there will be no shortage in the water supply amid fears that this dry spell season will last until June.
She stressed that this El Niño phenomenon could still have an impact in people’s health because of too much heat, this will bring high electric consumptioon due to the usage of electric fan, air conditioning units, among others.
Carbon said that because of the greater demand in the supply of electricity, this will result to power interruption and the motorized wells could also be interrupted.
Carbon added the phenomenon will increase water consumption of the people because of the hot weather condition. This scenario will be experienced during the peak hours that will result to a reduced water supply.
She appealed then to the consumers to observe the proper use of water especially on the importance of water conservation. Baciwa covers 41 percent of the city population in 61 barangays. The water district serves one cubic meter of water per day per household or at least 40,000 to 60,000 cubic meters during peak hours daily.
