Negrenses to mark women’s month celebration
BACOLOD CITY — Activities are lined up as March is declared the National Women’s Month as per Presidential Proclamation No. 224 and 227 as well as Republic Act No. 6949.
Negrenses join in the celebration with the local theme “Kababaihang Tapat at Matatag, Sagisag ng Republikang Maunlad”.
This year’s national theme is “Babae, tagumpay ka ng bayan!”, highlights women’s achievement in paving the way for women’s advancement and empowerment amidst major challenges.
This National Women’s Month is also a celebration of the success of the Magna Carta for Women- a comprehensive women human rights law- signed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on August 14, 2009.
The celebration aims to inspire and increase understanding of micro entrepreneurs, partners from government agencies, non-government organizations, academe and the private sector on microenterprise development, government programs and services that responds to the issues and concerns of the Filipino women, including but not limited to women’s rights, environment, family and work life balance.
A Walk for Women’s Rights kicked off the celebration March 1 at Taguig City where 5,000 women participated promoting the Magna Carta for Women or RA 9710.
On March 8, the International and National Day for Women, Go Negosyo: Babae Tagumpay Ka ng Bayan, a women entrepreneurship summit will be held at the World Trade Center in Manila.
In the province, the Provincial Council for Women will start the day with a flag raising ceremony at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon and Park followed by the unveiling of the Women’s Advocacy Billboard. A caravan will also be done in the major thoroughfares in Bacolod City while the afternoon of March 8 will be dedicated to the lecture on the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006. The PCW is chaired by Wenonah Martyr.
Meanwhile, the Bacolod GAD council chaired by Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue has also lined up activities for the entire month in the different barangays of the city.
Activities of the city for the women’s month celebration include a forum on Magna Carta for Women or RA 9710, Medical Mission for Senior Citizens, Operation: Family Nutrition, massage therapy training, youth spiritual encounter and values formation and food safety and meal management seminars, among others on different dates and in various venues in the city.(PIA/EAD)
