Poultry raisers meet to address El Nino impact
In its First General Membership Assembly, some 200 poultry raisers from various municipalities and cities in Negros Occidental gather recently at the Social Hall, Provincial Capitol Building for the formulation of resolution on El Nino mitigating measures on poultry and livestock and conduct seminar on various topics.
The gathering is anchored on the theme “Food security through Poultry”.
The poultry raisers who attended the general assembly include those engaged in backyard poultry raising and those raising game fowl and egg layers.
The assembly was initiated by Neg. Occ. Gov. Isidro Zayco and provincial veterinarian Dr. Renante Decena and organized by the Negros Occidental Poultry Raisers Association, Inc. (NOPRA).
NOPRA has been registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. It is headed by Manuel Puey with three vice presidents, George Baterna for northern Negros, Bonnie Ta-ala for central Negros and Caroll Guanco for southern Negros.
The directors are Fernando Cuenca representing broilers, Eriberto Sevilleno for layers and Rebecca Samonte representing free range chicken.
Various topics like tunnel ventilation technology, brooding technology and probiotics were discussed that will greatly helped the members.
Department of Agriculture Regional Field Unit Director Larry Nacionales spoke before the members of the Neg. Occ. Poultry Raisers Association, Inc in behalf of DA Acting Secretary Bernie Fondevilla.
Dr. Renante Decena, provincial veterinarian said the purpose of the organization is to have government assistance to benefit individual poultry raisers, facilitate technology transfer and education on poultry raising, and to produce quality poultry meat and poultry by-products.(PIA/cad)
