Banica to hold dried fish festival
ROXAS CITY – Brgy. Banica, one of the biggest barangays of this city, will be holding a dried fish or Ugahan/Pinakas festival on April 13 – 17.
Banica Brgy. Captain Frederick Agrasada said that the festival will coincide with the annual Pasalamat Festival and religious fiesta.
Banica is the “bagsakan” of all kinds of dried fish coming from Romblon, Masbate, Dumolog, Roxas City, Northern Part of Iloilo and other parts of Visayan sea.
Agrasada also said that eversince, Banica became the biggest source of dried fish in Western Visayas where whole sellers coming from Iloilo, Antique, Aklan, and Manila buy their dried fish for business at the market place here.
Banica, some 2 kilometers away from the city, has 7,666 populations based on 2007 popcen, 4,079 voters, P3.2 million Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) with an area of 33 hectares
According to Agrasada, the festival will also boost the dried fish business not only in Roxas City but also the entire country.
He added that he personally conceptualized the said festival since last year adding that the festival will also have ihaw-ihaw on fish and other marine products during the festivity.
Schedule of activities are as follows: April 13: mass and amateur singing
contest; April 14, talent night for Search for Miss Banica; April 15, battle of the band; April 16, tribal dance competition and fireworks display and April 17, grand parade: BO, BHW, BHA, SK, CVO and Lupon.
