The woes and triumphs of candidates
Noynoy Aquino, LP presidential standard bearer, has been leading the scientific polls survey since October of 2009. If this trend will continue for the next survey of March and April 2010, then a safe conclusion may be drawn that Noynoy-Roxas tandem will sweep to victory in the May 10, 2010 presidential election. Vice presidential candidate Mar Roxas has maintained his big margin over Sen. Loren Legarda.
The six points drop on Manny Villar’s rating in the recent Pulse Asia February survey may be attributed to his reported silent criticism of Pres. Gloria Arroyo’s wrongdoings, political observers say. Fresh in the mind of the Filipinos that Senator Villar has been accused by Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Jamby Madrigal of the C-5 road extension project from his real estate and impliedly benefited from the said project. There was also a reported accusation in the Manila dailies of vote-buying and land grabbing of which the Tondo senator said that he gave P20 to young boys below 18 years but denied the vote buying and land grabbing issues. How can this be since Villar is a multi-billionaire and even buys farmlands for his subdivision empire! What hurts Villar most is the accusation by some fellow senators during campaign sorties all over the country that he benefited from the C-5 multi-million road extension project. Then Senator Gordon had accused Villar on buying him in exchange for allegedly withdrawing his presidential ambition. The poor boy from Tondo will be busy answering these accusations and instead of presenting his own program of government should he become president, Villar is busy rebutting the venom spit on him by his political detractors.
Gibo Teodoro, the candidate of the administration is not helped by his partymates especially GMA. Edu Manzano, Gibo’s vice presidential bet, even asked the other day as to where’s the money for the intensive sorties of the administration’s candidates. GMA is silent even up to now about the campaign bag for her candidates including her endorsement and active campaign of Teodoro-Manzano candidacies. Gibo’s campaign strategies might be right in not letting GMA endorse her party’s standard bearer as this might have a big negative effect since GMA is hated so much by 60 percent of the Filipinos. But GMA should make available the campaign fund.
Meanwhile, Evangelist Eddie Villanueva of the Bagong Pilipinas may stage a surprise upset in the presidential election. Many evangelical, pentecostal, Catholics and other religious groups like the program of government presented by Villanueva during his campaign sorties. Eddie will invade Region VI with Iloilo City as his first stop over. Hundreds of the Iloilo Pastors and members are meeting him and his teammate at the Cabatuan airport next Monday. There are reportedly over 55,000 protestants in the country and should half of this will vote for Eddie the evangelist will become the 2nd Philippine Protestant President, the first was Fidel Ramos, a UCCP elder.
Former Pres. Joseph Estrada is far third in the Pulse Asia survey but he might create a miracle and he will become the double president to sit in Malacañang.
Richard Gordon of Olongapo City may also win. He and his partymates are making the shots and the senator may surprise Noynoy, Manny, Erap, Eddie and other presidentiables of the hidden and surprise votes of the Olongapo senator. Gordon is honest and his name has never been linked to anomaly and dishonesty. The kids will no doubt shout, “here comes Flash Gordon!”
What is very important in the coming May 10, 2010 elections is voters from rich to poor, do not sell your vote for a few pesos or bundle of goods, but vote according to your conscience and the love of the country. If we put crooks in government especially those who spent millions just to be elected in a public office, our nation will suffer and the poor will triple its population while the rich becomes richer. Remember that there is still GOD and He sees you when you vote on May 20, 2010 elections!
