Zulueta joins Treñas group
Reelectionist Iloilo City Councilor Perla Zulueta has joined the Team Uswag group of congressional candidate Mayor Jerry Treñas for the coming May 10 election.
Zulueta however clarified that she is not joining the Nacionalista Party (NP), where Treñas’ group belongs, but remains an independent candidate.
Zulueta earlier joined forces with vice mayoralty candidate City Councilor Erwin Plagata and councilorable Atty. Edeljulio Romero who are also independent candidates.
In an interview with The News Today, Zulueta said she left Plagata and Romero after they encountered problems with their schedules in going around the barangays. She said as of the first week of this month they have not taken off with their campaign.
The feisty lady councilor however said that she has formally informed Plagata and Romero of her decision to transfer to the Treñas group.
Zulueta disclosed that ever since Mayor Treñas along with vice mayoralty candidate Councilor Jose Espinosa III and reelectionist Councilor Lex Tupas had been inviting her to join their group.
Aside from Treñas and Espinosa, Team Uswag is composed of councilorables Edward Yee, Rodolfo Divinagracia, Roni Firmeza, and Johnny Young, all members of the NP, and guest candidates Jason Gonzales and Lex Tupas. Zulueta becomes the group’s seventh candidate for councilor.
Zulueta told TNT that she is comfortable with the Team Uswag group and she has actually started joining the group in their barangay caucuses.
She further clarified that she has yet to decide on whom to support in the mayoralty race. “It’s zona libre for me as of now,” Zulueta said.
Treñas’ group earlier declared to support mayoralty candidate Jed Patrick Mabilog who has his own candidate for vice mayor and candidates for councilor.
