Salute to the Ilonggo WW2 heroes
The government moves to remove banners that had pictures of his parents along Roxas Boulevard in Manila because these supposedly “helped his campaign.”
Why don’t they also remove “Ninoy Aquino” from NAIA? Why don’t they erase Ninoy also in the P500-peso bill? Why don’t they also delete in the history books Cory Aquino’s contribution to People Power 1? Indeed, desperate people (like the Villaroyo syndicate) do desperate moves.

It is a non working holiday today, March 18, due to Panay Liberation day.
To recall, this (March 18, 1945) was the moment when the Panay Guerilla Forces launched the final assault on the Japanese Imperial Armed Forces

The wreath-laying rites will be held at the tomb of Col. Macario Peralta and at the Tomb of Unknown Soldier at Balantang Memorial Cemetery National Shrine in Jaro, Iloilo City.
This shrine is the only military cemetery established outside Metro Manila and the venue of the bloodiest battle of the guerilla forces against the Japanese Imperial forces. A salute to the Ilonggo war veterans!

More than 14,000 Capiceño farmers are already affected by the prolonged drought brought about by the El Niño phenomenon.
The worse is yet to come. Help, please. Prayers alone, it seems, are not enough.

Sugar groups are now asking the government to urgently act against sugar smuggling in the country as it poses a very serious threat to the already endangered sugar industry.
Unless corruption in government offices is eliminated especially in the Bureau of Customs and the DTI, no amount of appeal will help.

If elections are held today, young city councilor Nielex C. Tupas will occupy the number one slot of the city councilors here after topping three local surveys this week.
As a true-blue Atenista, I just hope he will deliver the goods in the Council well.

Voting 9-1-3, the Supreme Court ruled that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo could appoint the next Chief Justice, a spokesman for the high tribunal said Wednesday.
Smells like a rubberstamp High Court. This is a proof that the allegations posted in the controversial book “Beyond the Shadow of Doubt” is accurate.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, head of the Nacionalista Party city slate, warmly welcomes city councilor Perla S. Zulueta to his camp to run for reelection.
Is this an example of political expediency? Anyway, it is better for Dr. Perla to join Treñas camp than to Gonzalez group as an underling.

The economy of Western Visayas continues to soar for the past three years, making it the third fastest growing economy outside of Metro Manila, Antique Gov. Salvacion Perez, chairperson of the Regional Development Council VI, said.
Maybe this is true in Negros Occidental and Iloilo, but not in Antique. What an irony.

Local government units (LGUs) can ask for the intervention of the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC), through the Task Force El Nino, on the declaration of state of calamity if their local councils will not act favorably on their request.
This can be a good news for Mayor Treñas after he was treated lukewarmly by the City Council.

For the third time in March, local oil companies have raised prices of gasoline, diesel and kerosene by 50 centavos a liter.
Now we understand why the Oil Deregulation Law sucks.

Did Joshua Clottey know in advance the traps laid out by Manny Pacquiao during “The Event” on Saturday?
Chief trainer Freddie Roach suspects the Ghanaian did. Mayweather simply says Manny is just not a good fighter after all. At least, Clottey ends up a millionaire.

Underemployment — covering those with jobs but wanting more work — was at 19.7%, up from 18.2% in January last year and October’s 19.4%. Some 7.1 million workers fall under this category, up from 6.87 million in October.
This is the legacy of GMA, period.

On the other hand, unemployment was at 7.3%, equivalent to 2.83 million people.
Unemployed workers of the country, unite!

The press can expect more access to the seat of power should the Liberal Party tandem of Senators Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and Manuel “Mar” Roxas II win the election.
Hopefully, the masa , not just the media, should also expect the same sense of transparency and accommodation in Malacanang if NoyMar wins.

Recognize Symbolics.com? Probably not.
But 25 years ago this week the Massachusetts computer maker played a bit role in history — it was the first company to register a .com address on what would eventually become known as the World Wide Web. Thank you MIT and Tim Berners Lee for giving us the well-loved WWW.
