PRO 6 draws up security plan for Earth Hour 2010
The Police Regional Office in Western Visayas has drawn up security plans in preparation for the Earth Hour 2010 on March 27, 2010.
Police Senior Superintendent Ricardo de la Paz, Chief of PRO-6 Regional Operations and Plans Division, reported during the recent Earth Hour 2010 organizers’ meeting that PRO 6 Chief Regional Director Isagani Cuevas has already issued a memorandum directing all the entire units in the region to initiate pro-active measures against criminal elements that might take advantage of the situation once the lights are switched-off during the Earth Hour event.
Earth Hour is a symbolic act to inspire humanity to mitigate and adapt to climate change through switching off unnecessary lights and electricity from 8:30 to 9:30 pm on Saturday, March 27.
As part of the PRO 6 operational plan, police visibility will be maximized through deployment of personnel on foot, mobile patrol and intelligence operation in crowded and crime prones areas. This is to maintain peace and order and ensure security of the public during the one-hour switching off of lights.
To further make the presence of policemen felt by the public and to pre-empt those who plan to perpetrate their nefarious activities, all PNP vehicles will be plying the streets with “blinker and siren on” especially in the identified crime prone areas, places where people converge, economic key points, government installations and other places of similar importance.
All police units were also asked to actively participate in this global event by revisiting environmental laws and incorporate these in the conduct of PICE, a week prior the conduct of Earth Hour to empower PNP personnel in the intensified implementation of these laws to save the planet.
Cuevas also directed the Iloilo City Police Office to provide appropriate security personnel at SM City Iloilo, the venue of the Earth Hour 2010 countdown event in Panay Island.
Activities have been lined up before the countdown event. (PIA)
