Task force Dagmil formed to probe cop’s slay
ROXAS CITY – The Capiz Provincial Police Office (CPPO) under the leadership of Sr. Supt. Josephus Angan formed task force Dagmil to investigate the motive and identify the suspects in the killing of Police Officer 2 Edilberto Dagmil who was gunned down Wednesday night last week at Dulangan, Pilar, Capiz.
This was said by Angan in a radio interview after the incident which involved the killing of a policeman where the Pilar police is following two angles such as personal or politically motivated.
Dagmil died because of a gunshot wound at his back. The suspect shot Dagmil while he was at the store of Remia Benigla-Dumagpi, daughter of Dulangan Brgy. Captain Robinson Benigla. It was learned that Dulangan was celebrating its annual fiesta when the crime happened.
The police officer was declared dead on arrival at the Bailan District Hospital in Pontevedra, Capiz..
Recovered from the scene of incident were several empty shells of 9 MM pistol.
Police said that another bystander was also hit. Lito Taneza sustained a gunshot wound on his buttocks. He was rushed to the Capiz Emmanuel Hospital in Roxas City.
Witnesses said that the suspect was identified as Egber Bendecio, an alleged bodyguard of Sta. Barbara, Iloilo Administrator Lyndofer “Glenn” Beup.
Police said the witnesses testified that Bendecio walked away casually after the incident towards the house of Beup.
However, Beup strongly denied the suspect entered his house after the incident. The Sta. Barbara municipal administrator also said that he and family members were having a re-union during the incident.
Beup admitted Bendecio had worked in his sugarcane plantation. But he strongly denied keeping the suspect at his house.
He said he was surprised that his name has been linked to the incident. He urged the police to dig deeper into the killing.
Remia is supporting the vice-mayoral bid of her sister Ruby Benigla-Patricio, an incumbent councilor of Pilar while Beup is allegedly supporting vice mayoral candidate and Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member Girly Hillada of Ugyon Kita Capiz (UKC).
Patricio is running under the Liberal Party (LP), a partymate of Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr. who is opposed by former Agriculture Usec Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante.
