Raul Sr. irked by claim linking him to grenade throwing
Former Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez Sr. was annoyed by accusations linking him again to the grenade throwing incident at the ancestral house of the Treñas family early morning yesterday.
In an interview with Aksyon Radyo Iloilo, Gonzalez Sr. categorically denied that he is involved in the grenade throwing at the Treñas ancestral house, the same way that he denied involvement in the grenade throwing incident at the Treñas family owned Carlo’s Bakeshop recently.
“I would not be in my right mind if I do that thinking that I would suffer the repercussions being a candidate for mayor,” Gonzalez told Aksyon Radyo.
Gonzalez challenged the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and other independent bodies to conduct a thorough investigation on the incidents to find out the truth and not to immediately issue conclusions without proper basis.
Gonzalez reiterated that he is in favor of placing Iloilo City under the control of the Comelec as what Mayor Treñas is asking. “There’s no problem with that. Wala man kami may ginatago,” Gonzalez said.
In fact, Gonzalez said that he has written the Comelec national office to investigate the series of alleged election-related incidents in the city.
He stressed that he also asked the National Bureau Investigation (NBI) to investigate the grenade throwing at Carlos Bakeshop but Treñas ignored the investigators.
“It’s sad that whatever happens to the Treñases we are always being pointed as the culprit when in fact we are not only his political opponents,” Gonzalez lamented.
He added that the Treñas camp is always pointing its fingers to them even if they do not have a single evidence.
“Treñas is also a lawyer. And as lawyers we do not indulge in hearsays. We should face all these things factually,” Gonzalez stressed.
Gonzalez said there is also a possibility that the Treñas camp is creating these scenarios for media mileage and to destroy his image.
He also challenged the Comelec to conduct an independent investigation and not immediately jump to conclusions without investigating.
Gonzalez pointed out that their group is also being harassed but they just ignore it. He cited their recent meeting in Brgy. San Antonio, Molo where they were allegedly blocked by the barangay captain who is an ally of Treñas.
