PhilHealth to undergo orientation on violence vs. women
ROXAS CITY – Employees of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) in Capiz will undergo an orientation on March 29 on the various laws protecting women.
Information Officer Mary Jane Amigo stressed that public awareness on the different laws and issuances that protect women is a must so that they would become empowered citizens.
Amigo said that said orientation, which will be done by the Philippine Information Agency here, will focus more on Republic Act 9262, otherwise known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children’s Act of 2004 as well on Republic Act 9710 or the Magna Carta of Women.
She said that move is also part of their activities here for the National Women’s Month celebration this month with a theme “Babae Tagumpay Ka ng Bayan.”
According to Amigo, the case of domestic violence has become rampant in our society, the reason why they will educate their staff on specific issues concerning said laws to avoid becoming a victim as well as to join in the fight against said violence.
Earlier, the Civil Service Commission has called on all government agencies, government-owned and controlled corporations, constitutional bodies, local government units and state colleges and universities to conduct activities in the observance of this year’s National Women’s Month.
This year’s theme aims to highlight women’s achievements in paving the way for women’s advancement and empowerment amidst major challenges.
It also celebrates the success of women’s commitment to pursue equality which resulted in the enactment of Magna Carta of Women, which is a comprehensive women’s right law signed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on August 14,2009, the CSC said in a memorandum circular.
Accordingly, the theme also spells out the achievements in the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA) including those related to the Millennium Development Goals. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
