Basngi’s ICPO posting put on the back burner?
Last Monday, Police Regional Office (PRO) VI was almost sure that Senior Supt. Dennis Basngi will succeed Senior Supt. Melvin Mongcal as Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) director.
But after two days, PNP Regional Director Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas said that Basngi could not yet assume post as ICPO director.
Officially, Basngi is assigned with the Directorate for Integrated Police Office (DIPO) Visayas.
He was then ordered to report at PRO-6 headquarters with the assumption that he would be given the ICPO directorship post.
Basngi is not assigned with PNP Western Visayas.
“May order nga ginapakadto na siya. The only problem is ang headquarters sang national police ginapa-hold lang anay nag iya pagpungko. That’s why we could not just determine kung sin-o ang mapungko,” Cuevas said.
The region’s top cop said that Chief Supt. Catalino Cuy of the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM) in Camp Crame advised him that “may inaayos pa.”
The advice was not elaborated.
But for Cuevas, the holding in abeyance of Basngi’s appointment could also help the latter to get acquainted with the current peace and order situation in Iloilo.
He added that the biggest challenge for the incoming ICPO chief would be to solve the latest grenade blast at the ancestral house of Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.
“Pinakabudlay ina nga sulbaron nga kaso because nobody was able to see kung sin-o naghaboy. Wala sang na-recover nga ebidensya that could pinpoint kung sin-o ang naghimo sina,” Cuevas pointed out.
It can be recalled that two weeks ago, PRO-6 announced that it is scouting an officer to replace Mongcal.
The outgoing ICPO’s exit was preceded by his taking of sick leave.
But even then, Treñas believed that Mongcal will no longer return.
