Shared blessing
April 2 is 3rd World Autism Awareness Day
Blessings are indeed in abundance and they are meant to e shared. The Autism Society Philippines – Iloilo Chapter was a recipient of such blessing, in the form of US $532.
Hilarion Cordero Jr., Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 13392, San Lorenzo Ruiz Council, St. Margaret Church in Nevada, Las Vegas gave the said amount.
According to Editha Jardeleza, president of ASP-Iloilo Chapter, this came about when Mr. Cordero searched for their recipients through the Internet and found ASP, thus making them one of their beneficiaries.
Jardeleza said that the turnover took place at St. Mary’s Academy, which is owned by Tess Baterna, a former student of Mrs. Cordero’s sister.
The turnover was led by Mrs. Cordero and witnessed by Grand Knights Dr. Greg Sancho and John Hontiveros of the Knights of Columbus, Molo Council 5028. Also present were Jobelle Salazar, principal of St. Mary’s Academy; Tessa Vargas, school administrator of St. Mary’s Academy; Neva Gregorios, Joana Factes, Liliane Balonzo and her son Jonathan, Twinkle Garcia and Editha Jardeleza.
Meanwhile, the 3rd World Autism Awareness Day is on April 2, but will be celebrated on April 9, 2010 in observance of Lent. There will be a motorcade from Jaro Plaza to SM City Iloilo at 9 AM, followed by a talent show for children with autism at the said mall.
The day before, April 8, there will be a seminar on “Occupational Therapy Intervention for Sensory Disorders for Children with Autism” with Christianne Andigan as the speaker. Andigan is a UP graduate and with Master of Health Sciences in Occupational Therapy at University of Sydney, Australia. It will be held at the KDC Hall of the Central Philippine University from 8 AM to 12 noon.
