One dead, 14 wounded as passenger van rams tree
One person was killed while four others were injured in a road mishap Saturday along Sitio Adecor, Brgy. Mangorocoro, Ajuy, Iloilo.
Rodrigo Dumali, Jr., 32, of Balasan town, Iloilo was proclaimed dead on arrival at Sara District Hospital.
SPO4 Rufino Sapitana identified the 14 wounded persons as Rodel Villarante, 26; Lino Torino, 24; Nelly Nelida, 24; Daisy Palmero, 27; Katrina Ityong, 19; Edsel Pelayo, 22; Diego Pelaez, 39, and his wife, 38-year old Terry; Josephine Almeda, 30; Ireneo Briones, 27; Carmela Desojo, 18; Romulo Ortega, 39; Louielyn Apilla, 21; and Roberto Suarez, 32.
Most of the victims are residents of Balasan town.
According to Sapitana, the victims were riding a passenger van from Iloilo City going to Balasan when the incident happened.
The van was allegedly gaining speed when the right front tire blew up.
The driver then lost control until the vehicle rammed a mahogany tree.
After the incident, all victims were rushed to Sara District Hospital.
Those who needed further medical treatment were referred to hospitals in Iloilo City.
Meanwhile, Sapitana said that the van’s owner, a certain Romy Diaz, already went to the police station and gave his word that he would coordinate with the victims.
Diaz also assured of financial support for the fatality and those who were injured.
