2. Lenten Season. It is during this time that Catholics undergo fasting, alms-giving, penitence and prayer. It is also during this time that Catholics celebrate Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Black Saturday, when the Lenten Season culminates—just before Easter.
3. Pope. The pope is the head or the highest authority of the Catholic Church. He is believed to be the successor of Peter, whom Christ appointed to be the Head of the Church, as told in Matthew 16:17-19 and John 21:15-17.
4. Violet. Colors are very symbolic in the Catholic Church and every color has its meaning. The color violet is a symbol of preparation and waiting as Catholics prepare for the coming of Christ. It also symbolizes penitence and fasting.
5. Pentecost. It is the Sunday after Christ’s Ascension into Heaven. The feast of Pentecost recalls how the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples and urged them to spread the word of God.
6. Liturgy of the Word. Liturgy of the Word is divided into four readings: the first reading (which is taken from the Old Testament), the second reading (which is taken from the New Testament), the Responsorial Psalm (which is taken from the book of Psalms), and the Gospel.
7. Consecration. It is here where the priest dedicates the bread and wine in order for them to become the blood and body of Christ.
8. Communion. It is during this part wherein the people partake of the body of Christ, in the form of the consecrated host (the bread and wine).
