PRO-6 heightens alert as local campaign officially begins
The police force in Western Visayas has intensified all security measures to deter and prevent violence with the start of campaign period for local candidates.
The region’s top cop, Chief Superintendent Isagani R. Cuevas, declared the entire police force in Western Visayas on heightened alert in adherence to the directive of PNP Headquarters.
Cuevas said in the past two elections, most election-related violent incidents were more rampant in the local level.
Records from the PNP Directorate for Intelligence show that 571 or 34.94 percent of the cities and municipalities nationwide are in the list of election watchlist of areas.
“With the success of the campaign on the gun ban and private armed groups, there is more reason that we must push our police personnel to be more vigilant to ensure that the May 10 elections will not only be orderly but importantly peaceful,” Cuevas said.
He is also reminding the public to be vigilant and to report any sightings of violations of the Comelec rules and regulations regarding the electoral processes so we could prevent possible violent confrontation among candidates and their supporters. (VH Bandoquillo)
