Kin of slain Tanco supporter cries for justice
ROXAS CITY – The family of Ruben Dorado, a supporter of Dumarao mayoral candidate who was gunned down recently, is still crying for justice after police have yet to establish the motive as well as pinpoint suspects to the crime.
Earlier, Dorado’s wife Merlita sought the help of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) relative to the killing of her husband inside their house.
Dorado is set to be buried on the 2nd week of April but the police is still facing a blank wall relative to the case.
Police could not confirm insinuations that the killing of Dorado is politically motivated as there is no evidence or witness that would prove the same.
The report was submitted by Sr. Insp. Victoriano Ricardo Y. Acosta III to the provincial director of the Capiz Provincial Police Office.
Acosta noted that Dorado who had witnessed before a case filed in court against Romeo Halamane and the latter filed charges of “attempted homicide” against Dorado.
The case was investigated by Insp. William Limjuco, Jr., deputy chief of police, Scene of the Crime Operations and augmented by Capiz Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) as directed by Acosta.
Acosta said they have interviewed the victim’s wife and their children regarding the incident.
Dorado’s son Mervin said he went out of their house after his mother shouted for help and he saw a parked motorcycle with two persons on board who fled towards the direction of the national highway.
Mervin however could not describe the suspects and the motorcycle they were riding because he was far away from them.
Last March 14 at around 11:30 p.m., Dorado was shot dead by unknown suspects while sleeping at their house together with his wife Merlita and two years old child in Poblacion Ilaya, Dumarao, Capiz.
It was learned that their two other children were spared since they slept at their neighbor’s house however, Merlita was hit by a bullet on her head but is already out of danger while her two years old child is still in shock.
Dorado, 39, is the head of Civilian Volunteers Organization (CVO) and a political runner of mayoral candidate Victor Tanco, Jr., son of Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr, of Liberal Party.
He suffered broken head inflicted by 12 gauge shotgun used by unknown suspect.
Police said the suspect shot the victim at close range through the hole on the wall considering that the house of the victim is made of light materials.
Recovered from the scene of incident were two empty shells of 12-gauge shotgun.
Meanwhile, the victim’s wife revealed that her husband had been receiving death threats before the incident happened.
Dumarao Mayor Leslie Warren “Beboy” Benjamen appealed to the residents to wait for the police investigation and not make any insinuation relative to the killing of Dorado.
Benjamen of Lakas-Kampi CMD is facing his 3rd cousin Tanco, Sr. in the mayoral race.
