Bacolod lying-in clinic to open in June
The Bacolod City-Riverside Lying-in Center is expected to be fully operational by June this year, Executive Assistant to the Mayor Nelu Barcoma said recently.
The 30-bed facility is a joint project of the Bacolod City Government and the Riverside Medical Center, Inc. who entered into a memorandum of agreement for the conversion of the City Health Office building into a lying-in and birthing home center.
Barcoma, who was appointed point person for the said project, said that renovation of the building is 65% completed and is expected to meet its targeted completion date.
The city government has decided to put up a lying-in clinic to decongest the Western Visayas Regional Hospital and as a precursor to a city hospital that will be built in the near future. The city government also saw the importance of putting up a facility that will provide free health services to many Bacoleños who cannot afford to pay for medical treatment and services.
Riverside Medical Center, who undertook the building renovation, will be in charge with the set up of supplies and equipment at the center while the city government, through the City Health Office, will have direct supervision over the facility.
Facilities found at the lying-in center will include the 30-beds for patients, nursery, emergency room, labor and delivery rooms, reproductive health center and students’ dormitory.
