Another cop nabbed for gun ban violation
Another policeman was arrested over the weekend for violation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.
But it looks like PO3 Danilo Leonoras of 1st Maneuver Platoon of the Negros Occidental Provincial Public Safety Management Company (NOPPSMC) based in Sagay City has to face charges aside from his gun possession.
Reports reaching the Police Regional Office (PRO) VI claimed that the suspect was arrested by his fellow cops after he was in a drinking spree and went rowdy inside the Rainbow Videoke Bar in Purok Paglaum, Brgy. Balintawak, Escalante City, Negros Occidental.
Chief Insp. Santiago Rapiz arrested Leonoras who was donned in civilian attire and with a firearm tucked on his waist.
Reports said that Leonoras went unruly after he got irked when KTV receptionists refused to entertain him.
The cop was yielded with a caliber .45 pistol with three magazine loaded with 23 rounds of live ammunition, and another magazine for a M16 A1 rifle loaded with 27 live bullets.
It was gathered that Leonoras is already the fifth policeman arrested for gun ban violation in Western Visayas.
Three of the violators, including Leonoras, are from Negros Occidental and one each in Bacolod City and Iloilo City.
As of April 4, 2010, PNP Regional Director Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas said that there are already 163 persons who are arrested for gun ban violation.
Negros Occidental topped the list with 55 persons.
Bacolod City followed with 30; Iloilo province with 21; Capiz province with 18; Antique and Iloilo City with 12 each; Aklan with 11; and Guimaras with 4.
The offenders composed of 134 civilians; four members of the AFP, 10 government officials, and 15 others like security guards, barangay officials and tanod, and CPP-NPA member.
Seized from the suspects were 132 firearms (100 low-powered and 32 high-powered), 39 bladed weapons, and 6 grenades.
There are 125 cases filed in court while 25 are still under investigation.
